About this dilution
43% is a common premium bottling strength used by many whisky and rum brands, while 40% is the legal minimum and standard bottling strength for most spirits. Bringing 43% down to 40% means adding roughly 75 mL of water for every litre of spirit, increasing the batch to about 1075 mL.
